I spent 20+ years inside the fashion machine. Then it nearly broke me.
I'm Dara Fleischer, writer, podcaster, fashion-industry veteran and former shopaholic.
For more than two decades, I worked inside fashion and beauty media, retail and brand partnerships. I knew how desire gets manufactured. I understood scarcity, aspiration, reinvention and the intoxicating promise that the right thing could somehow make you the right version of yourself.
And I bought into it anyway. Literally.
What looked from the outside like a lifelong love affair with fashion had quietly become something much darker: compulsive shopping, overwhelming debt, secrecy and an increasingly desperate attempt to buy my way into feeling better.
Eventually, I had to confront a truth I couldn't shop my way around:
Shopping wasn't my problem. It was the language I used to cope with everything else.
That reckoning became At My Limit.
Today, I write, podcast and speak about compulsive shopping, money, recovery and reclaiming agency. I'm also proud to be part of The Shopping Shift, a global movement changing the conversation around shopping, money and self-worth.

Worked the cash wrap at my mom's clothing store and sold handmade ribbon barrettes for $2. The fashion career started early.

Moved to NYC for my first fashion + beauty PR job. Discovered designer sample sales before earning anything remotely like a designer-sample-sale salary.

Fashion + beauty blog, newsletter, personal shopping service and group shopping tours of Manhattan. The irony is not lost on me.

Editorial, retail, partnerships and events across top fashion + beauty brands. The résumé gets better. The shopping gets worse.

The job I walked away from
Named Fashion Editor of Glam Media in NYC, a role I'd dreamed about. At the last minute, anxiety won. I backed out. I regretted it.

Austin
Moved from New York to Austin and worked in fashion/retail sales at SXSW. Online shopping accelerates, and cowboy boots enter the chat.

Launched the podcast and finally started talking publicly about compulsive shopping, money and what was happening behind the clothes.
